Boulder River Wilderness

The Boulder River is one of my favorite spring destinations for photographing waterfalls. I usually make at least one trip here each year in early spring, as soon as I know that the snow has melted … my way of kicking off a new season of forest photography. This is a trail I return to again and again for its easy access, beautiful forests and towing waterfalls. I was lucky enough to photograph these falls on an early spring morning with good water flow just before a wind and rain storm came in.

I photographed the falls from both downstream and upstream, but this view from an upstream position worked best for me on this shoot. A 4:5 image ratio framed this scene the best, keeping attention on the two main waterfalls and the frothy current of the Boulder River flowing between big mossy boulders.
