Boulder River Waterfalls in Pouring October Rain [Video]

The Boulder River Trail offers easy hiking into the Boulder River Wilderness, with scenic views of waterfalls cascading down cliffs and right into the Boulder River.

Join me for a photo shoot of the Boulder River waterfalls in the pouring rain.  First, we shoot Feature Show Falls, wading out into the flooding river to anchor the scene with big mossy boulders in the foreground.  Next, we shoot an un-named falls pouring over a cliff another 1/4 mile up the trail.

This is wet and wild Boulder River Wilderness at its autumn best.

To see the Boulder River waterfalls under best conditions, visit during spring runoff in March through June, or after (or during) a good rain in the autumn.  The waterfalls are often just little trickles during the dry season.

I make it a point to photograph the Boulder River waterfalls about every year.  See photos from earlier trips here, here and here.

This short hike makes a great family outing.  But check road conditions on the Forest Service website before committing to the drive out there.  The Washington Trails Association has a great description of the hike and how to find the trailhead.
